PTLens is often quoted as a valid "alternative" to DxO, but I don't see it that way. I pretty sure Capture One doesn't have lens-specific corrections like DxO - it might have a "manual" distortion filter similar to the PS Lens filter. it is not a converter/catalog application (like Lightroom or Aperture, for example). The downside to DxO is a slightly clunky interface and the fact that it is ONLY a raw/jpg converter, i.e. Since every UWA zoom produces curvature distortion which must be corrected in order to achieve a quality result, I see DxO as a "no-brainer" choice. Capture One might (arguably) produce "better" RAW conversions, but you're into pixel-peeping territory before any meaningful differences might show up. IMO it's the best, most logical solution for RE work. Does Capture one pro have lens correction like dxo?

If there focusing distance isn’t declared as ambiguous in module then slider won’t be present for Windows and will be grayed out for Mac.Does anyone have both of these or experience with either? I have the trial of dxo right now but Ive heard some people say capture one is better. This slider is present or absent for all images made with same couple camera + lens.

It will be modified later.įocus slider: There is an ambiguous focusing distance when slider “focusing distance” is available in pannel “Geometry”. Now we do but Exif reading Sony A7 III has not been modified yet so Optics modules will still consider we don’t read it. The correction showed it was wrong.įocusing distance in Sony cameras: for a long time we didn’t get the focusing distance in Exif on Sony cameras. Before the modification the focusing distance was considered as non inlfuent on the distortion correction (focus min to max would end up with same default for the same focal). The Sony FE 24-105mm F4: in early December we modified DxO Optics Modules for this lens because some configuration of Focal/Focus were not well corrected in distortion. Let me clarify a bit this question of focus.

But I can’t confirm that as I have not found a way to access to earlier versions of the software on DxO’s website. I also believe that early versions of PL4 (before 4.1) did not show the problem, so it seems to have been introduced in a subversion of PL4. The problem is, DxO corrections can’t be taken as a reference either if they change from version to version. I know LR can’t be taken as a reference point for optical corrections but that’s what I have right now. Sometimes the 4.1.1 correction is closer to Lightroom, sometimes it is the 3.3.4. Also, once the correct distance (from the exif) is manually entered into 4.1.1 the correction is still different from that applied by 3.3.4.ĭoing a little bit more testing, it is difficult to assess which correction is the most accurate. None of these did solve the problem.īelow are screenshots showing the problem with the distance scale on the exact same raw, where 3.3.4 interprets the distance encoded in the exif while 4.1.1 does not. removing/resinstalling the lens module, removing/reinstalling PL4, logging in under a fresh user account.

So I did the usual “user problem” stuff i.e. This seems to point towards a problem in my own install. So I also tried with an A7III+24-105 raw file and on my system (16 inch macbook pro, latest catalina) it showed the same behaviour, opposite to what is reported above.
